Lyrics Day Seventy Seven – ‘Normality 2.0’

Hey everyone,

today’s lyrics have nothing to do with yesterdays, despite having similar titles. Actually, I just got to thinking of the meaning of the word ‘normal’, and how it can be so abstract and subjective – essentially, normality changes for everybody, based on their circumstances. And, whilst we can engage in routines, every single person is unique, so there’s no way of expressing what ‘normal’ is. In that sense, the word almost seems meaningless. Anyway, here are some thoughts on normality.

Normality 2 (Verse, Half Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus)

What is normality?
Asked myself that question
the answer of course
depends on your perception

In every single person
their experience is unique
so ‘normality’ as a term
is nothing but oblique

Even a shared moment
is experienced differently
two sets of eyes
perceptions shaped by their history

In every single person
their experience is unique
so ‘normality’ as a term
is nothing but oblique
Routines can be established
loved ones become a constant
but naming something ‘normal’
makes it less poignant

I’ve lived beside friends
for years at University
from the second our eyes opened
our paths altered drastically
the same pavement led
from building to building
but perspectives differ
the definition needs rekindling

In every single person
their experience is unique
so ‘normality’ as a term
is nothing but oblique
Routines can be established
loved ones become a constant
but naming something ‘normal’
makes it less poignant

Lyrics Day Forty Four – ‘Change’

Hey everyone,

today’s lyrics focus on the concept of change. I guess when you hear the word change, you’ll have your own reaction it – for some it causes excitement, and others concern. To be honest, change isn’t comfortable for me, at least initially, in most cases. But the change that I’m speaking of in these lyrics relates to the change that I do like, and need – the profound change of character over time.

I plan to write these lyrics for a long time to come, and in some way, it’s sort of turning into a diary. Not in the traditional sense, but it does keep a log of what I’m thinking about, in relation to the different topics each day. Initially, I asked people to choose topics for me, and whilst you’re still welcome to do that, I find it so meaningful to write about issues that are close to my thoughts at any given time. Hopefully, these words allow you to consider what change means to you.

Stay safe ~

Change (Verse, Half Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus)

Such profound meaning
from a six letter word
when it takes place
all around the echo is heard

I want to change
to know myself better
understand my values fully
then follow them to the letter

Because I’ll trust myself
external forces won’t matter
I’ll dust them off quietly
continue filling the soul’s platter

I want to change
to know myself better
understand my values fully
then follow them to the letter
Whatever the destination
my method is set
only one way to react
no matter how tough life gets

At every stage of life
there are many bumpy roads
but a heart filled with purpose
always has somewhere to go
I seek to understand
just who I am really
no more doubt or shame
only knowing my path clearly

I want to change
to know myself better
understand my values fully
then follow them to the letter
Whatever the destination
my method is set
only one way to react
no matter how tough life gets
